I am very pleased to announce the publication of the first annual report of the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK). The annual report will cover our views and progress made “doing business in Korea” in 2018 as well as the first half of 2019 - another busy and productive period in support of European business in Korea.

Established in December 2012, the ECCK has emerged as a prominent organization that represents the voices and overall interests of European businesses in Korea. Our membership base has grown significantly to 350 active member companies over the past six years. Industrial committees are in operation as reliable platforms to deliver the positions of European investors and corporations to regulatory authorities. Today, the ECCK operates 14 permanent industry committees with advocacy staffs with over 10 years of experience in the field. We have been making significant strides towards the best interests of both European and Korean businesses.

In 2018, the Chamber continued to demonstrate a healthy growth, evidence of the continued attractiveness of Korean market for European businesses. ECCK played a central role in representing the interests of our members and wider business community by advocating on key issues with the government, promoting European business and economic environment here in Korea, facilitating access to vital information for companies, and by improving our own services. With these very advancements, the ECCK is dedicated to representing the common voice of European businesses in Korea in order to promote their interests and profiles. The ECCK aims to function as the platform for information exchange, as an effective communication channel to Korean authorities, and as an organizer of networking opportunities for our members and potential business partners.

With the strong foundation of commercial and investment partnership between Europe and Korea, the ECCK will continue to raise the difficult issues with the Korean government in the future, actively engaging in ongoing dialogue with the related authorities about the business climate, transparency, and necessity of reforms in various sectors of the economy. ECCK will continue to build value for our members with focus on better representing the business community concerns in Korea. We will be working closely with governments to both shed light on the areas where our members have identified a need for change, develop initiatives which will promote economic development and instigate innovation and creativity for Korea.

All of this continued development has attracted many new companies as members, from small companies to key players in the Korean market and major international businesses. ECCK is in great shape to keep building in the years to come. I can confidently look forward to the continuing success of the Chamber.
